This is the first children's book based on the collection of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. Inspired by Learning Through Art/The Guggenheim Museum Children’s Program, it provides a fun way to learn about art and uses works of art to explore basic elementary school subjects such as math, science, language arts and social studies.
Full-color reproductions of twelve masterpieces from the Guggenheim's collection form the basis of sections that are filled with information, exploratory questions, writing and drawing activities, fun facts, and suggestions for additional projects to do at home. Handsomely designed by Takaaki Matsumoto, its pages are specially coated so that writings and drawings made with washable marker will wipe off, allowing each activity to be done again and again for years to come. Geared toward ages 6 – 10, this book offers a delightful way for parents and children to share art together.
Learning Through Art/The Guggenheim Museum Children’s Program (LTA) was founded in 1970 by the late Natalie Lieberman in response to the elimination of art and music programs in the New York City public schools. Serving thousands of students annually, LTA focuses on increasing the learning and communication skills of elementary school children through an innovative multidisciplinary approach, and offers activities that are designed to supplement the classroom curriculum and increase children’s exposure to the arts.
